Leaking shower repairs in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs
- Stain on the ceiling below, damp skirtings, or water outside the screen.
- Surface leaks: grout removed and replaced with epoxy. Tiles stay.
- Membrane leaks: floor demolished, substrate repaired, waterproofed, retiled.
How do I know the shower is the source?
The usual signs are a ceiling stain in the room below that darkens after showers, paint bubbling beside the screen, a soft smell, or grout that stays wet long after the shower is off. A pipe leak can look similar. The inspection is there to separate those before anyone starts cutting.
Can it be fixed without removing tiles?
Yes, when the water is entering through porous cement grout, missing grout or failed silicone at junctions, and the tiles and floor are still sound. The existing grout is removed and the joints are filled with impervious epoxy grout. Read the epoxy regrout page.
When do the tiles have to come up?
When the floor has insufficient fall to the waste, tiles are drummy, or water is getting through a failed membrane. In that case the shower floor and the bottom row or rows of wall tiles are removed, the substrate is repaired, the area is waterproofed, and it is retiled and epoxy-grouted. See shower floor retile.
What should you do this week?
- Stop using sealant as a cover-up if water is already in the ceiling.
- Photograph the stain and the shower joints.
- Book the inspection so the quote matches the leak path.
